Fall 2011 EAD 825 Shared Leadership In Schools Dr. Barbara Meloche Shared leadership in schools addressed the numerous issues that principals deal with on a regular basis and how teacher leaders can go about taking on more leadership and guidance roles within their school staff. The shared leadership model ties in directly to EAD 801 and EAD 824 by Dr. Colflesh. All three courses were very beneficial in understanding the role of the school principal and teacher leaders.
KIN 855 Psychosocial Basis of Coaching Athletes Dr. Martha Ewing This course was directly related to human growth and motor development and the direct relationship it has to athletic development. Different growth and motor patterns as well as basic physiological principles were studied in depth in this course.
Spring 2012 EAD 801 Leadership and Organizational Development Dr. Nancy Colflesh In this course, the importance of teaching leadership and the powers that teacher leaders can have upon a school were thoroughly discussed. The organizational development of a district, successes of a school and the relationships between teachers, administrators and students can be influenced for better and for worse by the relationships involved.
KIN 854 Legal and Administrative Issues for Administrators and Coaches Dr. Rick Atkinson KIN 854 was a real eye opener in the sense of liability for schools and facilities.The legal issues that were discussed in this course were very informative which led me to be more proactive in facility assessments.
Summer 2012 ED 800 Educational Inquiry Dr. Steven Weiland Concepts of inquiry in education addresses problems of theory and practice in teaching and learning, administration, and leadership. It discusses and revisits the history of teaching while explaining different learning styles and learning methods used by many different prestigious educators.
CEP 883 Psychology of Classroom Discipline A. Fedewa Psychology of Classroom discipline dealt with the behavioral and psychological issues of students while developing positive accommodations for difficult students. Creating behavior plans, creating goals for extrinsic motivation and behavior assessments of students were the focus of this course.
KIN 856 Physical Bases of Coaching Athletes George Harnick The physical bases of coaching taught by George Harnick was a real in depth and thorough look into sport physiology, anatomy, biology and the best practices currently used Kinesiology. Mr. Harnick made sure to cover all the "bases" of coaching athletes and the kinesthetic issues that accompany coaching.
Fall 2012 EAD 824 Leading Teacher Learning Dr. Nancy Colflesh Leading teacher learning was a great course led by an exceptional instructor. Dr. Colflesh taught great methods to discovery learning while studying administrator leadership and the roles of the principal in schools. The importance of protocols for teacher leadership and students and the importance of action research projects by teachers were important aspects of this course. By far this was the most important class I have taken in my program.
KIN 857 Promoting Positive Youth Development Through Sport Dr. Dan Gould The development of youth sports and their influence on social and athletic growth was the theme for KIN 857. Michigan State University, as the leader in the developer of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports lead by Dr. Gould, created this course to promote the development of youth sports while studying the positive benefits that youth sports have on individuals throughout their lives. http://edwp.educ.msu.edu/isys/
